Every morning you pray for him. At the coffee maker, at the door, at night when the house is quiet and he's somewhere you can't see. You've bought him something to carry that prayer, more than once. The book helps you pray, but it stays by your coffee cup. And the pieces you sent with him never made it past the season.

It was never your prayer that fell short. It was what you sent it on: elastic, plating, a flat disc nobody can read. So we made the piece the prayer deserves.
A river, and a child to carry. In the old tradition, Christopher was a giant of a man who carried travelers across a dangerous river on his shoulders. One night a child asked to be carried. Halfway over, the child grew heavier than anything he had ever lifted, and on the far bank he told Christopher whom he had carried: Christ. His name means "Christ-bearer". It's a tradition, not a record, and we tell it as one. It's why drivers have kept his picture over the road ever since.
St Christopher is the patron of travelers and drivers. Everything on his medallion comes from that one crossing. Here's what rides over his head.
Sources: the tradition of St Christopher as the lives of the saints tell it, told here as tradition; the words as they read on the A044 medallion; the traveler's prayer on his card checked word by word.

A round St Christopher medallion, 42 x 36 mm (1.7 x 1.4 in) with the clip, in antique-silver finish on alloy, an open-work frame around the saint and the words around the rim, on a steel spring clip behind; it fits most visors up to about 1 in (25 mm) thick.
For the man who won't wear anything: his pickup, the cruiser, the semi's cab or the first car, slid on in a second and moved to the next car the same way.
Not sure what to say? Say this: "Father, would you bless this St Christopher clip for my son's truck? And the truck too, if you have a minute: it's in the lot." It's printed on his prayer card too. a blessing for his car and this medal

“Sacramentals… always include a prayer.”Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1668
“Wearing charms is also reprehensible.”Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2117
“You received without pay, give without pay.”Matthew 10:8, quoted by the Catechism, 2121, on why no blessing is ever sold
If your sister says only Jesus saves, she's right, and you can tell her so: "I'm not asking the medal for anything. I'm asking Jesus, and the saint prays with me. Praying for him and praying to a necklace are two different things."
It adds nothing God was missing. It doesn't work on its own, and we'll never tell you it does. It's your prayer made visible, a reminder that rides over his head, and a reason to say it again every time you picture him pulling out.

The woman who answers every email at Oremus
My son Daniel is twenty-six. He works on wind farms three states away, and most days I don't know which county he's in. For years I prayed for him at the door and sent the prayer with whatever I could find: a "To My Son" bracelet that broke before spring, a medal from the big online store that was a black disc. I wanted something of my prayer to go where I can't, on a piece that lasts and that he can actually read. That's Oremus. I read the first name on every order, and I pray for those names on Sunday. When you write to us, it's me who writes back.

He can't wear metal on the line. So St Christopher is on the visor of his pickup, and I say the prayer every time I hear him pull out at 3 a.m.
Claire, Joplin MO · for her husband, a lineman

A pickup older than he is. I clipped it on at his birthday dinner and told him the story of the river. He said, Grandma, I know, you told me when I was six.
Evelyn, Abilene TX · for her grandson, 17

My husband drives long haul. The saint he had on a suction cup fell every time he hit a pothole. This one has been on his visor since spring.
Hazel, Amarillo TX · for her husband, a trucker

He's a deputy and I work nights at the hospital. We each have one on the visor. Same prayer, two cars.
Jill, Ocala FL · for her husband and herself

Bought it for my daughter's first car. Her visor is the thick padded kind and the clip took a push to get on. It holds fine; it left a small crease in the fabric. Four stars for that.
Doug, Peoria IL · for his daughter, 16
